A message from the owner;Brian Dering / Owner

Hello, my name is Brian Dering.  I wanted to tell you a little about myself and perhaps how and why I started in this most dynamic industry of computers and business technology.  It may seem to be a bit long, but after reading awhile, you should have a good idea of who I am and what has brought me here.

I was always highly interested in electronic and electrical things, even as a teenager.  Not only was I one of those folks who took things apart, but I was able to put them back together and make them work.  In my late teens, I was a DJ (clubs and weddings).  I sometimes had to make repairs 'in the field' so I needed to understand the basics of electronic equipment.  I took some courses in electronics and got a job at a stereo store where they also did repairs.  The owner taught me a great deal about electronics and stereo equipment.  I then moved on to a electronics repair company which expanded my knowledge into video equipment repair.

Soon after, I had a growing interest in computers since it seemed to be the next logical step.  I did a little research into buying a word processor or a complete computer.  I decided on a computer after talking to a few people about them.  Well, this is where the story gets interesting.

I walked into a store and bought my first "State of the Art" computer.  I told the person there that I wanted to make sure that it was upgradeable.  They assured me that it was and I took my new computer home.  I set the computer up, not too difficult, and started poking around the machine.  I found a couple programs that I could run but I have to tell you, that book on DOS was HUGE!  Luckily, a friend of mine who had influenced my PC buying decision was willing to help me get started.  We spent hours and hours going over the basics.  I read through the DOS manual and began embracing the computer and to me, it was like a whole new world to explore.

After a couple months, I decided that I wanted to upgrade my computer.  Well, I soon found out that I had really been "hosed" (taken advantage of) on my recent purchase.  My 3 month old computer was not upgradeable.  It would not accept any more memory or a faster processor.  I have to tell you, I was highly annoyed.  I took my lumps and swore to myself that I would NEVER let that happen again.  I started to absorb everything I could about computers.  I joined a few BBSs (Bulletin Board Systems using dial up - before the internet was 'big') and started asking questions from people who had been working with computers for awhile.  I started buying books on computer hardware, software.  After a couple months I decided to build my own computer from scratch.  I had gained enough knowledge by this time to be one of the people on the BBSs who was helping most of the other folks out with computer help.

I bought all the parts at a local computer fair and got home and began putting all the parts together.  The computer ran and I began installing my software.  Over the course of the next year, the new computer would see video, ram, hard drive and processor upgrades.  Eventually the computer would also see the addition of B.B.S. software (Bulletin Board System) and three modems.  Now multiple folks could dial into my computer to exchange information, etc...

Now it was time to build yet another computer since the BBS computer was now answering calls from dial in visitors, I needed a new computer for my personal use.  So, I built another computer.  Of course, the next evolution of my education began when I wanted to hook the computers together.  This started my exploration of networking and everything that went along with it.

I got a job at an electronics repair shop that also did computer upgrades, repairs, etc.  The owner gave me an education into business computer systems hardware and software.  I learned a great deal and one of the most important things that I learned was that if I was planning on making a career of computer, technology and business processes and systems, I would have to keep learning.  Since I had already been busy just about every waking moment expanding my knowledge of computer systems, hardware, software and business systems and training on the job, it was not too much of a departure from what I was already doing.

Fast forward a few years and a few different companies and I realized that I was unique in my chosen profession.  A had both breadth and depth of knowledge that many of my peers lacked.  I had an in depth understanding of hardware, software, business practices, marketing, graphics, etc...and I had very strong problem solving and solution providing skills.  Other professionals began calling me an e-mailing me from all over the country and eventually all over the world seeking help with solving issues.  Very few of these issues went unresolved.  I was (and still am) reluctant to allow an issue to go unresolved.

This is the experience that I bring to the table.  This and a great deal more.  Have a question?  Please feel free to E-mail me. [top]
